Hello All,
H
My Favorite Bit of Information From The Week:
One of my favorite books on PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) in our society, and one of my favorite theories about why it is so pronounced (along with why mental health issues are so pronounced in our society) is Tribe by Sebastian Junger. It’s a fascinating and short read, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I personally found it extremely helpful to learn that PTSD can be treated with therapy and other types of treatments and eventually go away, even long term PTSD has this potential.
For the short version of his theory, you can check out his Ted Talk here: https://www.ted.com/talks/sebastian_junger_our_lonely_society_makes_it_hard_to_come_home_from_war?language=en
Here is a link to his website (which has a short bio on Sebastian himself)and several options for purchasing the book should you decide to do so: http://www.sebastianjunger.com/

Resources
New From Last Week:
Yoga- because it combines mind, body and breath awareness- has the potential to help with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and even seasonal affective disorder (SAD). They are finding that stress lives in the body of our human organism as well as in our mind, when you calm down the nervous system through the body, your mind is also calmed.I have a myriad of different information on this topic that I will be sharing next week- but I thought it was appropriate to share one of my favorite FREE, online yoga teachers in the resources this week as well.
Here is her Yoga For PTSD video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqVSwY8y3UY&t=143s
If you have never done yoga before, she also has a lovely Yoga for beginners video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7AYKMP6rOE&t=283s
Her yoga for Anxiety is one of my all time favorite practices as well (NOTE: THIS ONE IS GREAT FOR PTSD AS WELL, AND IT’S SHORTER IF YOU ARE CRUNCHED FOR TIME): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJJWArRfKa0
Lastly, if you prefer a yoga in the classroom situation- I would be more than happy to invite you to one of my classes for free. Please just E-mail me back and I will send you my class schedule.
All my best and heart to you,
-Kate
